Doubles play costs Bees in 4-3 loss to Coe
Doubles play proved to be the difference as St. Ambrose lost at Coe 4-3 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.
The Bees dropped all three doubles matches to lose that point and ultimately the dual.
SAU's top team of Sebastian Arevalo Piraquive and Gabriel Guimaray fell 6-3. The No. 2 team of Jaime Febres and Austin Hutton lost 6-2. And Esteban Rocha and Miguel Sampaio dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 3 doubles.
That became the decisive point as the teams split the six singles matches.
St. Ambrose won at the top three spots. Piraquive and Guimaray each went three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Piraquive pulled out a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win while Guimaray won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Sampaio won in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
Febres dropped a competitive 6-3, 7-6 decision at No. 4 singles. Hutton (No. 5) and Jaxson Eisenbarth (No. 6) lost in straight sets.
The Bees, now 7-2 on the year, will host Quincy Sunday in an exhibition at the Quad-City Tennis Club.
