St. Ambrose sweeps St. Francis 4-0
Behind a pair of forfeit wins in singles play, St. Ambrose easily defeated St. Francis 4-0 in a CCAC dual in Lockport, Ill., Thursday.
The Bees also earned a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles. That, along with Sebastian Arevalo Piraquive and Gabriel Guimaray's 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, handed SAU the doubles point. The No. 2 team of Miguel Sampaio and Austin Hutton led 4-2 when their match was halted after the Bees had already claimed the doubles point.
With Esteban Rocha and Marcus Lang earning forfeit wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, St. Ambrose needed just one more win to take the dual.
Piraquive provided that win with his 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles.
The other three matches were stopped after the win was clinched. Guimaray led 6-0, 2-1 at No. 2 singles; Sampaio was ahead 6-1, 3-0 at No. 3; and Austin Hutton was up 6-0, 5-0 at No. 4.
Now St. Ambrose (8-9, 1-3 CCAC) will turn to postseason play. The Bees will host these same Fighting Saints Tuesday in a CCAC Tournament first-round dual. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m. at the Quad-City Tennis Club.
