Khiyara, Meystrik named CCAC Freshmen of the Year

Samy Khiyara and Catherine Meystrik were named the CCAC Tennis Freshmen of the Year as the conference announced its postseason men's and women's tennis awards. Jim Kiss was also selected as the women's CCAC Coach of the Year.

Khiyara was named the top freshman on the men's side after transferring to St. Ambrose from Northwestern (Iowa) for the spring semester. He immediately made an impact.

Khiyara, from Liege, Belgium, compiled a 6-3 singles record while primarily playing at the No. 4 spot. He also teamed with Miguel Sampaio to post a 6-3 record at No. 2 doubles.

The SAU men finished 12-7 overall and reached the semifinals of the CCAC Tournament. The Bees were also recognized as the league's Champion of Character team.

Meystrik led the women's team with 12 singles victories. She was 12-5 overall, including a 9-2 record at No. 4 singles.

The freshman from Jefferson City, Mo., also went 10-8 in doubles, playing at No. 1 and 2 doubles with a total of four different partners. Meystrik's 10 doubles victories were second only to Jenna Smithmeyer's 11.

She helped the St. Ambrose women finish 10-8 overall, marking the program's first winning season since 2020. Under Coach Kiss, the Bees finished second in the CCAC with a 3-1 league mark.
