Reemtsma qualifies for the Olympic Trials in the 400m hurdles
After a standout athletic career at St. Ambrose University, Will Reemtsma finds himself as an Olympic Trial qualifier in the 400m hurdles. The Olympic Trials will be held in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field, the home of the Oregon Ducks Track & Field teams. The eight day trials begin on June 21 with Reemtsma's first round of competition on Thursday, June 27th.
After receiving word that Will's time made the qualifying cut, Head Coach, Tyler Mulder said of Reemtsma, "We're very excited for Will and the opportunity to compete with America's best, we feel blessed for him to be able to garner this experience! It has us excited for his future as he has ambitions to continue on for the next Olympic cycle!"
The Davenport, Iowa native is one of the most decorated athletes to graduate from the university. National Championships were a familiar place for school-record holder, Reemtsma, as he was crowned National Champion in the 400 m hurdles in his collegiate career. The dual (indoor and outdoor) All-American has been named CCAC Athlete of the Week on nine occasions. In 2022 and 2023, Reemtsma was named the Outstanding Male Track Performer at the CCAC Outdoor Championships. His last season as a Fighting Bee, he was named the Outstanding Male Tracker Performer of the 2024 CCAC Indoor Championships.
With tremendous help throughout his collegiate career, hurdle coach, Shannon Reschke spoke about Reemtsma's time at SAU, "I remember receiving Will's first goal sheet at the end of 2021 in which he laid out his goals for the next year as well as standards he'd hold himself to." "It's unbelievable that each year those goal sheets progressed and he was able to check almost every last goal from his lists," said Reschke. "I can't wait to see how the next week unfolds for him and couldn't be more excited that his hard work and determination have paid off in such a big way."
The all-around competitor looks forward to fulfilling his lifelong goal. "This is a dream come true, I've been thinking about it for over 10 years," said Reemtsma. "It's been a family goal as well! My cousin was a former Olympic decathlete so this is an exciting step in the right direction!"
