SAU gets off to fast start with Frigid Bee Opener
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Bees started started their indoor track & field season with a strong start.
Starting off on the men's side, Kaizer Riley ran the 60m dash finals and placed second with a 6.95. He also won the 200m dash in 22.33 seconds. Not far after, Keagan Erickson ran the 200m dash and took second with a 22.75.
Top finishers in the 300m included Jatzyel Hernandez (third with a 35.61), along will Will Reemtsma, a SAU alumni finishing between Jackson Baedke (fifth with a 35.8), and Charles Huesmann (36.02).
Javon Bruce placed fourth in the 600m with a 1:27.27. Placing first, third and fifth in the 800m were Dylan Grandon (1:54.67), Chris Miserendino (1:54.98), and Elijah House (1:56.2).
St. Ambrose took second and third in the 4x4 relay with times of 3:23.49 and a 3:26.14.
In the men's pole vault, Joshua Mottet completed a height of 4.10 meters. Shawn Harris placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.64 meters. Leavell Windfield Jr. placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.70 meters.
Kicking off the women's season included Lynzie Cady taking third in the 300m dash with a time of 44.18 seconds. Lucy Oehler was fifth (45.47) and Maryn Gardner finished seventh (47.98).
Running the 800m included Kaylee Mowen (2:26.33) and Danielle Moore (2:27.32), who placed third and fourth, respectively.
The 4x400 meter relays placed first and third with times of 4:18.86 and 4:28.09.
Kate Surwillo in the pole-vault cleared a height of 3.05 meters and in the triple jump Jor'ae Beaver jumped a mark of 9.36 meters. Bree Neumiller won the shot put with a marking of 12.91 meters.
Some outstanding performances also included Joe Reinhart obtaining the B standard in the weight throw with a mark of 17.68 meters.
In the 60m dash finals on the women's side, Sarah Jordan, Nazayda Bloch, and Claire O'Melia went 1-3-4, each breaking the 12-year-old school record. Jordan set the new school record with a time of 7.72. These three women proceeded to place 1-3 in the 200m: Jordan (25.72), O'Melia (25.87), and Bloch (26.71).
With great first races this season, the Fighting Bees will continue their season with the Finals Week Invite in the WRC Thursday and Friday.
