Bees hit National Standards and smash PRs at Viking Olympics

Over the weekend, the whole track team from distance, to sprints, to field events, took on the Viking Olympics at Augustana College. There were many big performances as most of the team made its outdoor debut, with several personal records and national qualifiers.

Starting off with national qualifiers, Leavell Windfield Jr. received B standard in triple jump with a PR and mark of 14.62m placing him first in this event. Joe Reinhart placed first in the hammer throw hitting the national A standard with a mark of 61.08m and Brandt Williams threw a PR, meet record, and hit the A standard with a javelin throw of 62.71m.  

Continuing in field events, Joshua Mottet placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.25m putting him as 51st in the NAIA, Josiah Carter placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m and fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.63m. Brandt Williams placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 45.09m placing him 75th nationally. In the javelin throw, Annaliese Bowser and Ryleigh Warden placed fourth and fifth with marks of 33.47m and 32.63m. Bree Neumiller placed second in the discus with a mark of 43.35m placing her as number 12 in the NAIA and 16th in the shot put with a mark of 12.85m. Reinhart threw the shot put as well and placed second with a mark of 14.91m and 42nd in NAIA. 

In the 1500-meter race, 15 individuals set personal records. Some highlighted performances included Dylan Grandon and Chris Miserendino setting personal records, meet records, and putting them on the NAIA list as number 17 and 22 with times of 3:55.00 and 3:56.77, respectively. Kaitlyn Knoche placed first in the women's 1500 with a time of 4:47.05, setting a new PR and placing herself as number 32 in the NAIA in the event.

Other people who PRd included Elijah House (4:06), Kevin Chaney (4:14), Ian Eller (4:17), Tyler Moody (4:19), Jack Lied (4:22), Mason Schaack (4:44), Danielle Moore (5:04), Kaylee Mowen (5:06), Carlie Woolm (5:06), Adeline Smith (5:07), Lauren Johnson (5:08), and Allison Hein (5:17).

Alexis Havercamp ran in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a PR time of 13:24. In the 800, Loryn Heil set a personal record of 2:46 and in the men's race, Jackson Baedke placed third with a time of 2:01.79 as a PR, along with Benett Boatright and Anthony Conard with PRs of 2:06.3 and 2:08.87.

In the 100m dash taking top two in the women's race included Claire O'Melia (12.40) and Sarah Jordan (12.55) placing them as number 40 and 69 in the NAIA. Kaizer Riley, placing fourth, ran a time of 10.79 in the men's 100m dash placing him as 56th in the NAIA. The 4x100-meter relay consisting of Lynzie Cady, Claire O'Melia, Ja'Kniah Lewis, and Sarah Jordan placed first with a time of 48.78. Brady Belz placed second in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15 flat. In the 400, Jordan placed third in the 400 with a time of 61.08 seconds, Javon Bruce PRd with a time of 49.94, Braxton Story PRd with a time of 55.75, and Jason Quiles PRd with a time of 59.00.

In the 200, Kaizer Riley broke the meet record while placing third with a personal best of 21.94 placing him 67th in the NAIA. Jatzyel Hernandez, Brady Belz, Jacob Freyermuth, Jeremy Bachus, and Braxton Story all broke their PRs (22.27, 22.48, 22.52, 23.03, & 23.99). O'Melia proceeded to place second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.07, placing her 83rd in the NAIA, while Jor'ae Beaver and Erin Miner both PRd (28.62 & 31.60). 

The Bees were outstanding this weekend, hoping to continue to accelerate this momentum in the the next week at the Mount Mercy Mustang Distance Carnival & Open Friday and Saturday keeping their eye on the conference championships that are already less than one month away.
