Bees break school records and qualify for nationals
Over this past weekend, the Bees were spread out among three meets. The Drake Relays took place in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 23-25; the Kip Janvrin Open took place at Simpson on Friday April 24; and the Augie Alternative took place on April 25 in Rock Island, Ill., and the Bees did not disappoint
Starting off at the Drake Relays with National Qualifiers, which included the men's 4x800m relay team consisting of Elijah House, Tyler Moody, Chris Miserendino, and Dylan Grandon with a time of 7:34.20 hitting the Nationals A standard and breaking the school record.
The women's 4x100m relay including Lynzie Cady, Sarah Jordan, Ja'Kniah Lewis, and Claire O'Melia set a school record of 48.11 seconds as well.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Kaizer Riley, Jackson Baedke, Jatzyel Hernandez and Dylan Grandon ran the National B standard with a time of 3:14.88. The sprint medley relay consisting of JaQuarion Lewis, Kaizer Riley, Jatzyel Hernandez and Chris Miserendino ran in 3:25.2 to place third, breaking the old school record. In the men's hammer throw, Joe Reinhart placed fourth with a mark of 61.55m to break another school record.
Continuing the positive energy at the Kip Janvrin Open, Kaitlyn Knoche ran the National A standard in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:01.78. Lauren Johnson, Alexis Havercamp, Kevin Chaney, and Benett Boatright all earned PRs in the steeplechase as well (11:34, 12:51, 10:27 and 11:05), and in the 5k, Adeline Smith PRd with a time of 18:23.
Finally at the Augie Alternative, Jacob Freyermuth PRd in the 100m dash prelims with a 10.99, along with Braxton Story at 11.70 seconds. In the 200m, Kaizer Riley placed first with a time of 22.11 seconds. In the men's 800m, Elijah House won with a PR of 1:52.46. In the 400m hurdles, Jason Quiles hit a PR of 1:10.14, Anthony Conard and Shyam Devasthali earned PRs in the 1500m with times of 4:30.78 and 4:38.12.
For the women, Danielle Moore set a personal record in the 400m with a time of 1:04.16 and Loryn Heil with a 5:49 in the 1500m.
Taylor Snook, Alek Weiland, and Dominic Neely all PRd in the javelin with marks of 48.39m, 45.21m and 33.35m. Zaire Wilcox PRd in the long jump with a mark of 6.51m and Alex Potts PRd in the shot put with a mark of 11.73m.
Bree Neumiller threw a personal best of 44.88m in the women's discus. Alexis Tomlin hit a PR in the hammer with a mark of 40.11m. PRs in the women's long jump were achieved by Jor'ae Beaver, Catherine Zamora and Erin Miner (4.92m, 4.30m and 4.10m).
With all these Personal Records and National Qualifying times, the Bees are ready now more than ever to race and compete at the CCAC Conference meet in Joliet, Ill., May 1-2.
