St. Ambrose doubles up Cornell 28-14

St. Ambrose overcame a slow start to defeat Cornell 28-14 in Lee Lohman Arena Tuesday night.

The Bees dropped the first two matches in falling behind 7-0, but victories in six of the next seven matches, including three by pinfall, turned the tide.

Josh Zeman, Diego Machado and Colin O'Grady each won by fall. Zeman's win in 6:45 at 149 pounds followed Guiseppe Guerra's 9-1 major decision at 141 pounds, and gave SAU a 10-7 lead.

After Cornell tied the dual at 10-10, Machado needed just 1:23 to put the Bees back in front. His fall at 165 pounds gave St. Ambrose the lead for good.

Anthony Sartori just missed a major decision, setting for a 10-3 decision at 174 pounds. O'Grady got a first-period pin, in 2:09, at 184 pounds to help SAU open 25-10 lead. Dylan Meiners added an 8-2 decision at 197 pounds for the final Bee win.

Riece Graham (125 pounds), Eli Gonzalez (133 pounds), Slade Dias (157 pounds) and Jeremiah Morris (heavyweight) dropped decisions for St. Ambrose.

The Bees will head to Missouri Baptist Saturday.
