Finch takes third at Coe College Invite
Reese Finch led a small contingent of Bees by placing third at the Coe College Invite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday.
Finch, a sophomore 149-pounder, finished 3-1 in his bracket. After a first-round bye, he needed just 1:59 to pin his opponent in the quarterfinal round. A semifinal loss dropped him into the consolation bracket. Finch rolled to a 17-9 major decision before picking up an 11-6 decision in the third-place match.
Ethan Blair also made a nice run through his bracket at 165 pounds. A quarterfinal loss following an 8-6 victory in the first round, sent him to the consolation side. There, he pinned his next opponent in 2:38. Blair dropped his final two matches, including a decision in the seventh-place match, to settle for eighth.
Three other Bees each won a match.
Slade Dias got a third-period pin, coming at the 6:07 mark, in a match at 165 pounds. Abdullah Razzak also won by pinfall at 5:45 at heavyweight. At 149 pounds, Josh Zeman won a 6-4 decision.
Jacob Alexander lost his two matches at 133 pounds.
St. Ambrose will next compete in the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open on Dec. 7.
