St. Ambrose loses to Augustana on criteria 22-21

After a slow start, St. Ambrose won five of six matches, including four in a row, to tie a dual at Augustana 21-21 Tuesday night. With two wins via fall to SAU's one, the Vikings ultimately claimed the dual 22-21 via criteria.

The Bees dropped the first two matches and trailed 9-0. Guiseppe Guerra got SAU on the board with a 21-8 major decision at 141 pounds, but another loss had the Bees down 15-4 after four bouts.

Then St. Ambrose got rolling.

Diego Machado picked up a 4-2 decision at 157 pounds to cut the deficit to 15-7 heading into intermission.

After the break, reigning Heart Conference Wrestler of the Week Jayden Terronez kept rolling, pinning his opponent at 165 pounds in the first period at the 2:43 mark.

That was followed by a pair of back-to-back major decisions. First, Anthony Sartori cruised to a 17-5 win at 174 pounds. Then, Colin O'Grady picked up a 24-16 victory at 184 pounds.

But leading 21-15, SAU couldn't close out the dual. Dylan Meiners at 197 pounds and Tyler Casey at heavyweight each lost a decision which knotted the dual score at 21-21. The two early losses by fall proved to be the difference as the dual was determined by criteria.

The Bees will return home to host Waldorf Saturday night.
