Guerra takes second at Grand View Open

Guiseppe Guerra went 4-1 on his way to finishing second in the 141-pound bracket in the Open Division of the Grand View Open Saturday in Grimes, Iowa.

Guerra opened with a 12-3 major decision before earning 9-3 and 4-2 decisions to reach the semifinals. There he won in a tiebreaker before his run fell in the championship match.

Three more Bees earned wins in the Open Division.

After a first-round bye, Jude Finch picked up a 14-8 win at 141 pounds. Chuck Fitzgerald lost a 1-0 opening-round match at 149 pounds before earning an 18-3 tech fall on the consolation side. And at 157 pounds, Georgino Moraga won back-to-back decisions by scores of 17-12 and 6-4.

Tate O'Shea (141 pounds), Jeremiah Morris (197) and Tyler Casey (heavyweight) also competed in the Open Division for St. Ambrose.

A total of eight Bees won matches in the Freshman/Sophomore Division led by Mitchell Murphy, Brody Schmidt, Colin O'Grady and Jean-Luc Guerra.

Murphy won five matches, including two via pinfall (2:11 and 1:15) and one tech fall (19-2), at 133 pounds. Schmidt and O'Grady each won two matches. Schmidt pinned two straight opponents in less than a minute each at 174 pounds, the first one coming in 28 seconds and the other one lasting 57 seconds. O'Grady won three matches by fall in 3:48, 1:56 and 44 seconds at 197 pounds. Among Guerra's three wins at 184 pounds were a pin in 1:41 and a 12-3 major decision.

Kayden Marolf and Berett Callison each won a pair of decisions at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Dalton Lopez earned a pin in 1:56 at 125 pounds and Eli Gonzalez prevailed 4-3 in a first-round match at 133 pounds.

AJ Trendle (125 pounds), Dalton Koenig (133), Josiah Carter (157), Treagan Hansen (165), Brad Surwillo (165), Mark Whalen (165), Jaxson Holec (165), Nicolas Makwala (184), Bobby Stickelmaier (184), Cooper Wynn (197), Keandre Miles (heavyweight) and Ray Hughes (heavyweight) wrestled for the Bees in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.

SAU will wrestle at Graceland Tuesday.
