St. Ambrose picks up multiple place winners at Coe College Invite

Jean-Luc Guerra led the Bees by going 3-2 in the 184-pound bracket, finishing fourth place in the Coe College Invite Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Guerra won his first two matches by decision, 5-2 and 8-5, before losing in the semifinal. After dropping the match, he responded with a major decision, 14-5, in the consolation semifinals before falling in the third-place match, finishing fourth overall.

Both Georgino Moraga and Brody Schmidt placed fifth in their respective brackets with similar routes. After a first-round bye, Moraga won by decision 5-1 in his first match of the day. His one loss was in the quarterfinal, before earning the wins in his following three matches (8-1, medical forfeit, and 4-2). Schmidt also received a first-round bye before winning a 16-4 major decision in his first match. He came back from his quarterfinal loss with a pinfall (1:39), a tech fall (18-3), and a decision of 7-2 to finish the day.

Josh Zeman picked up two decision wins, 6-5 and 19-12. Josiah Carter earned three wins on Saturday, his first match was a 16-15 decision, his consolation round four 23-7 tech fall, and a seventh-place match win. Similarly, Colin O'Grady tallied a couple of wins to take seventh place. AJ Trendel fell in the first round before receiving a second-round bye and winning by tech fall 15-0 in the consolation second round. Kayden Marolf earned two wins with a 19-3 tech fall and a 9-2 decision. Callan Hursey won his first match of the day with a 17-9 major decision. Colin Burton took one win with a 14-6 major decision.  Jeremiah Morris secured a win on Saturday with a pinfall in 2:49.

Tyler Clarke (133 pounds), Brad Surwillo (165 pounds), Treagan Hansen (165 pounds), Bobby Stickelmaier (184 pounds), Cooper Wynn (197 pounds), Hector Izaguirre (285 pounds), and Ray Hughes (285 pounds) also competed for the Bees.

Next, the Bees will travel to Crete, Neb., for the Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open.
