Fighting Bees battle through deep field at Conner Oppenheim Open

St. Ambrose University wrestling turned in a full day of action at the Conner Oppenheim Open, highlighted by strong championship-side runs from Guiseppe Guerra, Josh Zeman, and Kayden Marolf, along with several standout performances across both the Open and Amateur divisions.

OPEN DIVISION

141 | Guiseppe Guerra – 6.5 team points

Guerra put together one of SAU's strongest championship-side streaks of the day. After a first-round bye, he dominated Joe Frazier (Graceland) with a 17–1 tech fall and followed it with a 5–1 decision over Eastern Oregon. He continued his run with a 16–4 major over Grand View's Emilio Casillas to reach the semifinals. Guerra was eventually knocked to the consolation bracket, where he dropped close decisions to Noah Parmelee (Northwestern) and Channing Porter (Arizona Christian).

149 | Josh Zeman – 6.5 team points

Zeman again showed his ability to finish matches, pinning Midland's Zion Amerson in the second round. After falling in the quarterfinals to Grand View, he bounced back with another fall—this one over Benedictine's Mason Scholtz. His day ended in a tight 4–2 loss in the consolation fifth round.

157 | Georgino Moraga – 1.0 team point

Moraga battled through a tough bracket, advancing in the consolations with a sudden-victory win over Grand View's Ayden O'Brien. His run ended in the third round of the backside via fall to Eastern Oregon.

184 | Jean-Luc Guerra – 3.0 team points

Guerra secured a first-round fall over Benedictine before dropping consecutive matches to Grand View opponents, ending his day in the second round of the consolations.

197 | Jeremiah Morris – 5.0 team points

Morris performed in the consolations, pinning Wayland Baptist in just 14 seconds and advancing by medical forfeit. His day ended in the third consolation round.

Brody Schmidt (174 pounds), Nicolas Makwala (184 pounds), Colin O'Grady (197 pounds), and Keandre Miles (285 pounds) competed for the Bees.


AMATEUR DIVISION

125 | AJ Trendle – 2.5 team points

Trendle notched a dominant 20–5 tech fall over Waldorf and a 7–5 decision win in the consolations before exiting in the third round.

125 | Dalton Lopez – 7.5 team points

Lopez delivered one of the best Amateur-side performances, earning three wins—two by fall and one by forfeit—to reach the fourth consolation round.

133 | Tyler Clarke – 2.5 team points

Clarke earned a fall in the consolations before being edged 7–6 by Briar Cliff in a tight elimination match.

157 | Kayden Marolf – 2nd place, 15.5 team points

Marolf led the Bees with an excellent tournament, rolling to the finals with a tech fall, a fall, and an 11–1 major decision. He came up just short in the title match, falling 2–1 to Cristian Ramos of Benedictine, but secured SAU's highest finish of the day.

157 | Josiah Carter – 4.5 team points

Carter opened with a fall and followed it with a sudden-victory win. He later added a 16–11 decision in the consolations before bowing out in the fifth round.

165 | Berett Callison – 5.5 team points

Callison picked up back-to-back pins in the consolations, advancing to the fourth round before being stopped by Benedictine.

197 | Cooper Wynn – 5.5 team points

Wynn powered to two first-period pins—one in just 51 seconds—but fell in the championship second round and again in the third consolation round.

285 | Ray Hughes – 3.0 team points

Hughes battled for a fall in the third consolation round after two early losses, adding valuable points for the Bees.

Treagan Hansen (165 pounds), Brad Surwillo (165 pounds), Colin Burton (184 pounds), Bobby Stickelmaier (184 pounds), and Hector Izaguirre (285 pounds) competed for the Bees.
