Bees settle for doubleheader split with Eagles

Christina Pembrook allowed just three hits in helping St. Ambrose to a 5-3 win at Judson in the first game of a doubleheader in Elgin, Ill., Saturday afternoon. The Eagles bounced back to claim the second game 4-1 to earn the split.

Pembrook retired the first nine hitters she faced and the Bees got her the runs she would need in the top of the fourth. Morgan Krieger had an RBI double and Karley Kopaska had a run-scoring single, and Libby Munsterman dropped down a squeeze bunt as part of the four-run inning.

Pembrook ran into some trouble in the bottom half of the fourth, allowing two of her three hits in the frame, including a two-run home run as Judson scored three times to pull to within 4-3. But from there, Pembrook retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced, including the final seven.

Krieger drove in an insurance run with a single in the seventh to account for the final score.

Kopaska and Krieger each had two hits in the victory.

The SAU offense stalled in the nightcap. The Bees managed just three hits - singles from Munsterman in the second, Pembrook in the fourth and Olivia McClintock in the sixth.

Judson (18-14, 10-8 CCAC) scored four runs over the first three innings. SAU pushed across its only run in the sixth as McClintock scored on Pembrook's sacrifice fly to left.

Jane Thomas took the loss after allowing two earned runs over four innings. Ella Specht threw two scoreless innings in relief.

The Bees' Sunday doubleheader at Robert Morris has been postponed until Tuesday.
