Hosting the first of three Dome Tournaments at the Ambrose Dome, St. Ambrose got its 2026 season off to a strong start as the Bees won all four of their games.
SAU outscored its opponents a combined 33-8 over the four games, which included a pair of five-inning victories.
It took the Bees just five innings to defeat Cleary 9-0 Saturday. It was a big seven-run fourth inning that broke things open. Taylor Martyn, Shai Erdrich, Anna Engberg and Mya Millsaps drove in runs in the frame.
Erdrich, Becca Haag, Kylee Claypool and Martyn each had two of the team's 10 total hits. Martyn and Engberg scored two runs apiece.
Leah Maro earned the win by allowing just two hits over 4 1/3 innings. She struck out seven and walked just one. Shea Meech recorded the final two outs.
SAU rallied from early 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to defeat the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) 5-2 in the final game of Saturday.
Haag's third-inning single tied the game at 1-1 and her single in the fifth plated Erdrich and Engberg to put the Bees in front. Meech and Engberg had RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, to create some breathing room.
Haag finished 3-for-4 with the three RBIs. Erdrich had two hits and scored three runs. Ellie Downing also collected two hits.
Meech got the win in relief of Bianca Shorter. Meech pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings before Maro picked up the save by throwing the final 1 2/3 innings.
Behind two hits apiece from Millsaps, Martyn and Brynnlin Kroymann, the Bees pounded out 12 hits in a 10-1 five-inning win over Briar Cliff Sunday.
A four-run first inning was all St. Ambrose would need. Claypool and Millsaps drove in runs in the first, and Erdrich's RBI ground out in the second pushed the lead to 5-0.
After Briar Cliff got on the board in the top of the third, the Bees went back to work. Kroymann, Kylie Schult, Martyn, Erdrich and Haag brought in runs as part of a five-run third that closed out the scoring.
Maro went the distance, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out seven.
SAU scored runs in four straight innings, with multiple runs scoring in three different frames, in a comeback 9-5 win over Clarke to wrap up the tournament.
Martyn and Alena Holder each went 3-for-3 with Martyn driving in two runs and Holder scoring three times. It was Martyn's two-run triple in the fourth that knotted the score at 3-3. The Bees scored three times in the fifth, with Engberg and Haag each knocking in one run, to put SAU in front for good. Kroymann and Engberg brought in runs as part of a three-run sixth inning to break things open.
Shorter earned the win after surrendering a single run in 4 1/3 innings of relief work. Meech went the first 2 2/3 innings.
St. Ambrose will host the second Dome Tournament next Saturday and Sunday.
