St. Ambrose wrapped up its third and final weekend of hosting Dome Tournaments in the Ambrose Dome by defeating Mount Mercy 3-0 Sunday night.
It salvaged a weekend that saw the Bees fall to Saint Mary 5-1 and No. 14 Madonna 6-3 Saturday and drop a 5-1 decision to Aquinas earlier Sunday.
Leah Maro tossed a three-hit shutout to take down Mount Mercy in the tournament finale. She struck out five and walked only one.
SAU pounded out nine hits but didn't push across a run until the fifth. It was the speed of Shai Erdrich that gave the Bees the lead. She led off the fifth with a bunt single and promptly stole second. Erdrich moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Reagan Engberg before coming in to score on Parker Leonard's ground out.
St. Ambrose (8-4) added two insurance runs in the sixth. Ada Boysen started with a single to right. She stole second and came around to score when the catcher's throw sailed into the outfield. Kylie Schult then doubled and ultimately scored on an Anna Engberg base hit.
Erdrich and Alena Holder each had two hits in the victory.
The Bees managed just five total runs over the other three games on the weekend.
SAU had eight hits, two coming off the bat of Ellie Downing, but scored just one run in the 5-1 loss to Saint Mary.
Taylor Martyn's double plated Schult to get the Bees to within 2-1 in the second before Saint Mary plated single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to pull away.
Maro took the loss after working three innings. Shea Meech pitched the final four frames in relief.
A four-run second inning was too much to overcome in the 6-3 loss to nationally-ranked Madonna.
Martyn had an RBI single in the fourth and Anna Engberg drove in a run in the fifth. Becca Haag accounted for the final St. Ambrose run with a home run in the sixth. Haag and Martyn each picked up two hits.
Bianca Shorter was charged with the loss. Maro, Boysen and Meech all pitched in relief.
Reagan Engberg drove in Erdrich to give SAU a quick 1-0 lead over Aquinas. But the Saints took the lead with a two-run third inning and padded the advantage with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for the 5-1 win.
Erdrich and Reagan Engberg had the only two Bee hits.
Shorter went the distance to get tagged with the loss.
St. Ambrose will next head to Alabama to compete in the Gulf Coast Invitational beginning Mar. 6.
