Offense continues to roll in sweep of Blue Angels

After beating Mount Mary 14-0 in five innings Friday, St. Ambrose continued its offensive onslaught, sweeping a doubleheader from the Blue Angels by scores of 24-0 and 10-2 Saturday afternoon in the Ambrose Dome. Each game lasted just five innings.

In Saturday's opener, the Bees pounded out 23 hits and they scored at least five runs in every inning.

Shai Erdrich finished 5-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Alena Holder (six RBIs, two runs scored) and Mya Millsaps (three runs, two RBIs) each had a four-hit game.

Reagan Engberg, Shea Meech and Parker Leonard each finished with two hits. Engberg scored four times and drove in one. Meech homered and scored and drove in two. Leonard had three RBIs and scored twice.

Becca Haag had a hit, an RBI and scored three runs. Brynnlin Kroymann and Ellie Downing each had one hit, one run scored and two RBIs. Mia Souliotis collected a hit and an RBI. And Kylee Vaughn and Amber Gnutek each scored a run.

St. Ambrose (13-10, 3-0 CCAC) scored five runs in both the first and fourth innings, and put up seven runs in both the second and third.

Bianca Shorter cruised to the win. She struck out six and allowed just one hit and one walk over three innings. Kylie Schult worked two perfect innings in relief.

Thanks to a pair of errors, SAU spotted Mount Mary a 2-0 lead in the first.

But the Bees, who scored in every inning of the doubleheader, got one run back in the bottom half of the inning before taking the lead for good with two runs in the second. St. Ambrose broke the game open with three runs in both the third and fourth innings before closing out the win on Vaughn's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Kylee Claypool, who hit a two-run homer, was one of four Bees with a two-hit game. Vaughn, Gnutek and Anna Engberg also had two hits.

Also picking up hits were Kroymann, Schult, Maddi Larsen, Taylor Martyn and Meech.

Leah Maro struck out six over four innings to earn the win. Meech pitched the final inning.

SAU will host Viterbo Tuesday.
