Shutout completes sweep of Eagles
Shea Meech and Leah Maro combined for six strikeouts in a six-hit shutout of Judson Wednesday afternoon in Elgin, Ill.
Meech worked the first four innings, striking out a pair, and left with a 2-0 lead after RBI singles from Anna Engberg and Brynnlin Kroymann in the third inning.
Then it was Maro's turn.
The junior entered with runners on first and second and no one out in the fifth inning. The first batter she faced reached on an error to load the bases.
Maro got a ground ball to get a force out at the plate for the first out. She then picked up the first of her four strikeouts before escaping the jam by getting a flyout to center.
In the top of the sixth, St. Ambrose (21-12, 11-2 CCAC) added an insurance run on Taylor Martyn's one-out solo home run.
Maro then retired the side in order in the bottom of the sixth and pitched around a leadoff single in the seventh to record the save.
Engberg finished with two of SAU's five hits. Kroymann, Martyn and Mia Souliotis had the other Bee hits.
Meech earned the victory.
St. Ambrose and Trinity Christian will play a three-game series this weekend.
