St. Ambrose gets two more wins over TCC

Two strong pitching performances kept St. Ambrose rolling as the Bees swept a doubleheader from Trinity Christian by scores of 11-1 and 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

In the opener, Leah Maro went all five innings, striking out six while allowing just one run.

Eight different Bees had hits with Shai Erdrich, Anna Engberg, Becca Haag and Kylee Claypool each recording two.

Haag started the scoring with a two-run single in the bottom of the first. Taylor Martyn and Claypool each later drove in a run in the inning to stake Maro to a quick 4-0 lead.

The Trolls got their run in the fourth, but the Bees broke things open in the bottom half of the frame.

Kylie Schult, Anna Engberg, Haag and Shea Meech each drove in a run before Martyn capped the scoring with a two-run home run.

Alena Holder and Reagan Engberg also had hits in the first game.

Then Meech came out and dominated Trinity Christian in the second game. She struck out nine while only surrendering two hits and three walks in the complete-game, seven-inning shutout.

The game was scoreless until the third when Ellie Downing launched a solo home run to put the Bees in front. Anna Engberg doubled in Erdrich later in the inning.

Downing added another RBI in the fourth inning and Haag scored the game's final run on an error in the fifth.

Downing and Erdrich each finished with two hits. Anna Engberg and Brynnlin Kroymann collected the other two SAU hits.

St. Ambrose (24-12, 14-2) will host Calumet in a single game Monday.
