SAU gets Senior Day sweep of IUSB
St. Ambrose put up 12 runs twice to sweep a Senior Day doubleheader from Indiana South Bend by scores of 12-8 and 12-4 Saturday afternoon at St. Vincent's. The second game went just five innings.
The Bees, winners of 11 in a row, spotted the Titans a three-run lead after one inning in the opener.
A five-run second inning featured RBIs from Taylor Martyn, Brynnlin Kroymann, Kylie Schult, Shai Erdrich and Reagan Engberg to put SAU in front.
IUSB knotted the score at 5-5 in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom half, Engberg's single brought in Erdrich to put SAU back in front. Kylee Claypool later drew a bases-loaded walk to increase the lead.
Then in the fifth, St. Ambrose (28-12, 18-2 CCAC) broke things open, again scoring five times. Schult, Alena Holder and Claypool had RBIs and two other runs scored on errors to push the lead to 12-5.
Indiana South Bend scored three runs over the final two innings to account for the final score.
Schult and Erdrich each had three hits while combining for five runs scored and three RBIs. Engberg and Holder each finished with two hits.
Leah Maro earned the win in relief of Bianca Shorter. Shea Meech recorded the final four outs to get the save.
Erdrich then went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the series finale. Martyn collected three hits while Meech, Engberg and Mya Millsaps had two hits apiece. Holder, Becca Haag and Anna Engberg also had hits.
After the Titans again struck first in the top of the first, the Bees came back with seven runs over the first two innings. Reagan Engberg's two RBIs capped the scoring in the second that put the lead at 7-1.
IU South Bend got to within 7-4 in the fifth, but in the bottom of the inning, Erdrich had a two-run single, Haag drove in Erdrich and Reagan Engberg ended the game with a two-run hit.
Shorter was the winning pitcher. Meech also tossed two frames.
Between games the Bees recognized their six seniors - Ellie Downing, Reagan Engberg, Shai Erdrich, Brynnlin Kroymann, Becca Haag and Kylie Schult.
SAU will visit Calumet Sunday.
