Shayne Smith scores 1,000th career point in win
Congratulations to Shayne Smith, who scored her 1,000th career point in SAU's 68-59 win over Midland Tuesday night.
Smith, from Hume, Ill., entered the contest needing seven points to reach the milestone. After a scoreless first half, she came alive in the third quarter. Over a three-minute stretch, she scored eight points, all coming during a 12-2 run that turned a 38-36 lead into a 50-38 advantage. The senior guard capped the run with a pull-up jumper to give her 1,001 career points.
Smith, who is in her first season at St. Ambrose, scored 835 points over three seasons at Monmouth College from 2017-20. She has helped the Bees to a 15-1 record this year.
