Third-quarter surge not enough as Bees fall to Blue Devils

The St. Ambrose women's lacrosse team showed resilience Saturday morning with a strong third-quarter rally but ultimately fell 15-8 to Wisconsin–Stout.

In the first quarter, Wisconsin–Stout jumped out to an early advantage, scoring four goals in the opening minutes to take a 4-0 lead. The Bees responded midway through the quarter when Maeve Flynn scored off an assist from Eryn Cornwell. Shortly after, Raegan Dotterer added an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 4-2 by the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, St. Ambrose added another pair of goals. Cailey Kramer opened the Bees' scoring in the period with an unassisted tally, and Dotterer later converted a free-position opportunity to keep SAU within reach. However, Wisconsin–Stout closed the half with three late goals to take a 9-4 lead into halftime.

St. Ambrose delivered its best stretch of the game in the third quarter, scoring four goals in just over six minutes to pull within one. Kramer started the rally with a free-position goal, followed by another Dotterer score to make it 9-6. Kramer then struck again on an assist from Brooke Arendt, and Flynn capped the run with a man-up goal to cut the deficit to 9-8. Wisconsin–Stout answered later in the quarter to hold a 10-8 edge heading into the fourth. The Bees were unable to capitalize on their four shots in the fourth quarter.

Dotterer and Kramer led the team with three goals each, followed by Flynn with two. Dotterer and Karsen Jummati collected a team high of five shots in the contest. Flynn and Kramer tallied four, while Sara Casillas, Becca Schrage, and Abby Vanderwarren put up one shot. Arendt and Eryn Cornwell received two and one assists, respectively.

Defensively, Jummati collected three ground balls, followed by Arendt, Carlton, Dotterer, Kramer, and Vanderwarren with two, and Schrage and Gina Tinerella with one. Kramer and Jummati won three draw controls. Arendt, Vanderwarren, and Morgan O'Malley collected one.

In goal, Saige Carlton recorded 16 saves while playing the entire game for the Bees.
