Bees are crowned regular-season conference champs

With an explosive 8-0 win over Governors State this afternoon, SAU clinched the No. 1 seed in the the CCAC standings and was crowned the CCAC regular-season conference champs. Seven different Bees scored in this afternoon's win to move SAU to 11-5-2 on the season and end conference play at 9-2.

The Bees dominated throughout the match and put the Jaguars on their heels for all 90 minutes.

It took SAU little time to break open the game as Kaitlyn Brunson nailed a laser into the back of the net only a minute and a half into the match. This goal came off a two-person corner kick. Abigail Goff fed the ball through to Brunson.

From there on, St. Ambrose owned the next seven of eight shots. Until, Taylor DeSplinter drove to the end line and passed a cross right through the box where a striding Kendall Wendt calmly finished the second goal for SAU. The Jaguars stood no chance under the offensive pressure of SAU.

It was offensive attack after offensive attack for the Bees, working seamlessly to break down the Jaguars defense.

Again, in the 33rd minute, Nuria Montouto netted the third goal for SAU. Isabella Crawford was awarded the assist on the play.

Not even five minutes later, Sophia Roszkowski showed a brilliant solo effort to extend the lead for the Bees.

Finally, just before the halftime break, Charlise Martel served a ball across the box to the foot of Elly Bare. Bare finished this service to give the Bees a 5-0 lead before the break.

The scoring slowed down for the Bees as they only managed to net three goals in the last period of play, but two scoring opportunities would find the cross bar rather than the back of the net.

A little over 15 minutes into the second period of play, Goff and Brunson again took a quick two-person corner kick again. This time it was Brunson with another score as she lofted a high-arching ball out of the reach of the Jaguars' goal keeper. This moved the score to 6-0 with plenty of time left in the match.

Wendt was taken down in the box while she was on the ball, this resulted in a foul and a penalty shot awarded to St. Ambrose. DeSplinter put her name on the kick and placed an unstoppable ball into the upper netting for the seventh goal.

Just when the Bees thought they would score another, the cross bar would hinder that. A hard hit ball came off the foot of Addie Kerkhoff, but the cross bar denied it of any chance into the net.

To end the scoring for SAU, it was Martel this time with a goal. Lauren Bendall was credited with the assist and the match would end 8-0 in favor of St. Ambrose.

The Bees fired off 34 shots with 20 of those being on target. St. Ambrose earned 14 corner kicks.

Grace Kuchar earned the shut out in goal for SAU.

This Wednesday, St. Ambrose will host the opening CCAC quarterfinal match at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex as the No. 1 seed. Game time is still TBD.
