Bees advance to CCAC Tournament Finals
After winning the CCAC regular-season championship and gaining an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, St. Ambrose is now a win away from adding a CCAC Tournament title.
The Bees advanced to the championship match of the CCAC Tournament by defeating Holy Cross by a score of 3-0 in a semifinal Saturday afternoon at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
SAU will host Olivet Nazarene in the title tilt Wednesday at 6 p.m. ONU defeated St. Francis 5-1 in the other semifinal Saturday.
After dominating possession for much of the first half against Holy Cross, St. Ambrose grabbed the lead in the 41st minute when Kaitlyn Brunson scored from a Sophia Roszkowski pass to open the scoring. The Bees would take that 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, it did not take long for the Bees to double their advantage. In the 52nd minute, Taylor DeSplinter scored from an Abigail Goff assist to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 71st minute, Brunson scored her second of the game, this time scoring from a Jenna Horst assist.
The Bees only surrendered five shots and three shots on goal all game, with Grace Kuchar coming up with saves on all three. This marks the eighth straight game the Bees have had without conceding a goal. The team has won 10 in a row.
SAU will now prepare for the CCAC Tournament championship game Wednesday at St. Vincent's. The Bees will face an Olivet Nazarene team that handed St. Ambrose one of its two conference setbacks. The Tigers defeated the Bees 4-1 on Sept. 25.
