Early goal pushes Bees past the Pride

St. Ambrose women's soccer traveled to Dubuque, Iowa, on Wednesday night to take on the Clarke Pride. The Bees notched one goal in a 1-0 win over the Pride.

The game was off to a hot start in the first half, with one shot by each team within the first five minutes. The third shot resulted in a goal for the Bees by Mia Hefner in the seventh minute of play. This came off one of three St. Ambrose shots. The Pride rattled off 10 shots in the first half, all being just off target.

Neither team was able to score in the second half. The Bees put up one shot, while the Pride tallied six. Once again, Clarke's shots were not able to capitalize as their shots were just missing the net. In an otherwise Pride-dominated game, St. Ambrose was able to keep Clarke scoreless.

Lauren Bendall led the Bees with two shots. Hefner and Isabella Crawford each tallied one shot.

Jonna Tucker earned seven saves on the Pride's 16 shot attempts.

"I am very happy with this result; we took advantage of our best moments and defended very well when we weren't at our best with the ball. Mia did great for the goal, and Ella was composed for her first start in goal," said head coach Jon Mannall. "Clarke accumulated a lot of pressure in the game, but we dealt with it well, and we were unlucky not to double our lead."

"I believe this is a result that will look very good when we look back at it later in the season."

Next up, the Bees will host Benedictine University, Saturday, Aug. 30th at 3 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
