St. Ambrose holds off Benedictine for second win
St. Ambrose women's soccer hosted Benedictine College on Saturday afternoon. The Bees held out for a 2-1 win over the Ravens.
The Ravens controlled the possession after the first whistle blew, putting up three shots in the first 11 minutes of play. The bees responded in the 24th minute, Jenna Horst lofted in a beautiful cross from the left side to Mia Hefner, who one-touched the ball past the goalie. St. Ambrose continued to fend off Benedictine for the remainder of the half.
The Bees were off to a hot start in the second half. Nearly three minutes in, Hefner scored her second goal of the match, once again off the cross-in by Horst. That goal put the Bees up 2-0 over the Ravens. Benedictine responded with a goal of their own in the 18th minute of the half. St. Ambrose was able to hold off the Ravens for their second win of the season.
Hefner led the team with two shots, while Mia Vetter tallied one. Horst recorded two assists.
Jonna Tucker collected four saves on the Ravens' 10 shot attempts.
Next up, the Bees will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Thursday, September 4, as they take on the University of Northern Iowa Panthers.
