Hefner’s second-half goal lifts Bees to CCAC Championship Title
St. Ambrose women's soccer captured the CCAC Tournament Championship Tuesday night with a 1–0 victory over the University of St. Francis at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, the Bees broke through in the 60th minute when Mia Hefner found the back of the net off of a free kick from Addie Kerkhoff. The goal proved to be the difference as St. Ambrose's defense held strong to preserve the clean sheet.
The Bees outshot St. Francis 17–10 and held an edge in corner kicks 5-1. Jenna Horst led the attack with five shots while Isabella Crawford followed with four. Hefner and Lauren Bendall trailed with two while McKenna Shilevinatz, Sophia Roszkowski, Addie Kerkhoff, and Daniya El-Zein added one each. Kerkhoff shined on defense, noting an incredible assist from half.
Goalkeeper Ella Oscarsson recorded three saves in the shutout.
The victory secures St. Ambrose the CCAC Tournament crown and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Bees improved to 13–5–3 on the season and will await their national tournament seeding announcement later this week.
