Jacquet, Artabe named Swimmers of the LAC Championships

Maxi Jacquet and Irene Artabe were named the Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Meet at the Liberal Arts Conference Championships in Mount Pleasant, Wis.

Each Bee won three individual events to help St. Ambrose claim its fourth straight conference championships.

Jacquet won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.19, then claimed a pair of backstroke titles. He won the 100-yard backstroke in 49.24 seconds before adding the 200-yard backstroke champioonship in 1:47.99.

Jacquet also helped power three Bee relays to gold. The junior from Concepcion del Uruguay, Argentina, was a part of the conference-championship-winning 400-yard medley relay (3:21.04), 200-yard medley relay (1:30.83) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:02.52).

Artabe, a senior from Camargo, Spain, won the women's 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:09.64. She also added titles in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.25 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 59.01 seconds.

Artabe was part of four first-place relays - the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.64), the 400-yard medley relay (3:56.88), the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.69) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.36).

The Bees easily won the team titles with the SAU men finishing with 736 team points and the St. Ambrose women earning 631 points.
