St. Ambrose extends winning streaks with wins over Millikin
The St. Ambrose men and women's tennis teams extended winning streaks with dual victories over Millikin Friday afternoon at the North Scott tennis courts in Eldridge, Iowa.
The women won 6-1 for their fourth straight victory while the men's 5-2 decision was their fifth straight win.
The SAU women (4-2) took five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets.
Chiara Aguirre Cortez had the most competitive win, earning a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 1 singles. Hayden Evans won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Jenna Smithmeyer did not drop a game at No. 3 with her 6-0, 6-0 win. And Catherine Meystrik dropped a single game in her 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. Riley Heiar won by forfeit at No. 6.
The Bees swept the three doubles matches. Aguirre Cortez won 6-0 and Smithmeyer and Meystrik won 6-2 at the top two spots. The No. 3 team of Heiar and Yeva Shershan won via forfeit.
For the men (5-1), Miguel Sampaio and Emilio Palencia cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Gabriel Guimaray rallied at No. 2 singles after dropping the first set 6-1 to win the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5) before his opponent retired. Austin Hutton won by forfeit at No. 6.
Guimaray and Sebastian Arevalo teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 3 team of Sampaio and Shingai Manyonga won by forfeit. Hutton and Phoenix Hughes dropped their match at No. 2.
The Bees will close the fall portion of their schedule by hosting Grand View Tuesday.
