Ohioze qualifies for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Former St. Ambrose track and field standout and 10-time All-American Michael Ohioze made a name for himself this weekend at the 2021 British Athletic Championships.

The 2017 St. Ambrose graduate competed in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in third with a time of 46.42. Ohioze's bronze-medal time was just over a second faster than his St. Ambrose school record time set in 2016.

Ohioze's effort in the open 400-meter dash caught the attention of the Great Britain track coaches, garnering him a selection as one of the five roster spots for Great Britain's 4x400 relay in the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games.

The London, U.K. native came to Davenport in 2013 and ran his entire collegiate track career at St. Ambrose, where he racked up outdoor school records in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash, records he still holds to date. He will become the first ever track and field athlete from St. Ambrose to compete in the Olympic Games.

The 2020 Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 23 to Aug. 8.
