Bees drop two despite 13-run outburst

Brenden Alsup went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and scored five runs of his own to go with Max Rumpf's 4 RBI performance in a barnburner game 2 where the Bees would ultimately fall 14-13.

St. Ambrose got out to an early 4-2 lead with a four-run inning in the top of the second, highlighted by some stellar base-running by Mike Snow. Lourdes fired back with nine runs across three frames, but the Bees rallied in the top of the seventh inning with four runs to tie the game at 11. However, a Lourdes single in the bottom of the ninth walked it off to hand the Bees their sixth loss of the season.

Cooper Huckabone went 3-for-4 and launched his first home run of the season on a solo shot to left-center. Cole Aughenbaugh added two hits of his own.

St. Ambrose tallied a season-high 15 hits in the game 2 loss. Jacob Sciame was charged with the loss.

The bats weren't near as hot in the first game, with the Bees scoring two runs to Lourdes' five in a seven-inning game 1 loss.

The two runs came in a solid third inning at the plate. Gabriel Panza tied the game with a home run on a deep fly ball to center field to notch the first home run of the season for the Fighting Bees. Kyel Alexander reached base on a fielding error and stole two bases and was then knocked in by Shawn Rigsby to give St. Ambrose an early 2-1 lead.

Colton Carr's strong pitching eventually gave way in the fourth inning, allowing four runs on four hits. James Cormier came in for relief and closed out the game with two-and-a-third shutout innings, only allowing two hits and striking out three. The loss was credited to Carr.

Brenden Butler went for 2-for-3 at the dish and Mike Coughlin rocked a double to right in the top of the second.

The St. Ambrose baseball team will next take field at Mount Mercy for two doubleheaders in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
