Guzman named CCAC Pitcher of the Year; one of five on all-CCAC Team
With an appearance in the 2026 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round still to come, St. Ambrose was honored for its work during the regular season as the CCAC announced its postseason baseball awards.
Leading the way was Dominic Guzman, who was honored as the CCAC Pitcher of the Year.
The senior right-hander from Crystal Lake, Ill., has compiled an 8-1 record with a 2.93 earned run average. He has the second-most wins in the conference and is ERA is the fourth-best mark. Guzman has struck out a CCAC-best 110 hitters over 73 2/3 innings, which is the third-highest strikeout total in the nation.
Batters are hitting just .232 against Guzman over his 14 appearances, including 13 starts. He has tossed three complete games and a pair of shutouts.
Guzman, a three-time CCAC Pitcher of the Year, is the program's first conference pitcher of the year since Anthony Gagliardi won the award in 2015 from the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC).
Third-year head coach Tony Huntley was tabbed as the CCAC Coach of the Year. Huntley has guided the Bees to 32 wins along with CCAC regular-season and tournament championships. It was the team's first CCAC Tournament title since 2017 and the first outright regular-season crown since the 2008 campaign. Huntley is the first Bee baseball coach named a conference coach of the year since Jim Callahan won the MCC honor in 2012.
Guzman was joined on the all-CCAC First Team by Filip Milatovic, Michael Rago and Bryce Vorwald, giving St. Ambrose four first-teamers for the first time since the 2015 season as part of the MCC.
Milatovic, a second-team all-conference selection a year ago, is hitting .364 with a team-best 15 doubles to go along with three triples and three home runs. The senior catcher from Chicago, Ill., shares the team lead with 48 RBIs.
He was also named to the conference's Gold Glove Team for his work behind the plate. He has thrown out 21 potential base stealers and has registered a .986 fielding percentage (five errors in 363 chances).
Rago is batting .317 with seven doubles, two triples and four homers. He has scored 44 runs and is third on the team with 39 RBIs. The senior third baseman from Bensenville, Ill., is also second on the club with 18 stolen bases.
Vorwald leads the team and is second in the CCAC with a .393 batting average. He also tops the team with 64 hits, six home runs and 48 runs scored. The junior outfielder from Lowell, Ind., has also collected 10 doubles, three triples and 41 RBIs this season.
Mason Heitzler gave the Bees five all-conference performers by earning second-team recognition. The junior shortstop from Annawan, Ill., is batting .269 with 12 doubles, one triple and three home runs. Heitzler has driven in 37 while supplying strong defense up the middle.
Eric Gonzalez joined Milatovic on the CCAC Gold Glove Team. The senior first baseman from Batavia, Ill., has committed just two errors in 274 chances to post a .993 fielding percentage. It marked the first time SAU had two conference gold glove winners since 2023.
St. Ambrose will learn its opening round assignment Wednesday when the NAIA unveils the full 46-team national championship field at the PlayNAIA YouTube channel at 4 p.m.
