Thompson, Williamson Named First Team All-Conference
Sophomores Bryan Thompson and Memie Williamson were named first team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference as part of the Clarke Conference Bowling Invitational Sunday.
Thompson has averaged a 196.23 over 47 games so far this year. He has two top-10 finishes and has placed in the top-100 in five of his eight tournaments.
Thompson's top finish came Sunday at the conference tournament hosted by Clarke. He finished third overall after knocking down 1,308 total pins over six games, good for a 218.0 average. He was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.
Williamson has averaged a 177.95 over 39 games this winter. She has finished in the top-100 individually in six of the seven tournaments she has entered.
Sunday, Williamson finished 31st overall with 744 total pins over four games for a 186.0 average.
Teammate Maggie Suchoski was named to the Clarke Conference Invitational all-tournament team after finishing fourth overall. She totaled 1,150 pins to average a 191.67 over the six games.
Along with Suchoski and Williamson, the St. Ambrose A team received strong efforts from Taylor Garvey (18th with 900 pins) and Kelly Granzow (28th with 794 pins). The Queen Bees finished in second place among conference teams and third overall in the eight-team field.
In the Midwest Collegiate Conference roll-off, SAU finished second to conference champion William Penn. The Queen Bees defeated Viterbo in a semifinal before falling to the Statesmen 3-1 in the championship. SAU won the first game 189-137 before dropping the next three (192-155, 168-128, 145-130) in the best-of-five format.
A second SAU women's team finished fifth overall. Brooke Dahm and Brooke Post led the way. Dahm finished eighth overall with 1,093 pins (182.17 average) and Post was 15th with 935 pins (155.83). Jena Keimig was 29th with 793 pins (158.60).
With her team's second-place finish at the conference meet and overall results this season, SAU head coach Donna Lawrence was named the MCC Women's Bowling Coach of the Year Sunday.
Behind Thompson's third-place effort, the St. Ambrose Men's A team finished third overall, and second among MCC teams, in the 12-team tournament.
Sam Peterlin was 16th with 1,169 pins (194.83 average) and Brett Dahm was 23rd with 1,149 pins (191.50).
The Bees were knocked off by Ashford in three close games (186-167, 189-171, 147-136) in the semifinals. Ashford fell 3-0 to William Penn in the men's championship.
Evan Olson (10th with 1,251 pins), Brad Greenup (14th with 1,186 pins) and Garrett Hyle (21st with 1,161 pins) helped a second SAU men's team finish seventh while Ethan Gordon (seventh with 1,273 pins) and Adam Jacobsen (22nd with 1,160 pins) led a third team to eighth place.
The SAU bowlers will next compete at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday and Sunday.
