Bees battle against the Fighting Saints
St. Ambrose men's soccer traveled to Joliet, Illinois, for their first conference game of the season on Wednesday evening to take on the Saint Francis Fighting Saints. The Bees scored two goals in their victory.
In the first half, the Bees were outshot 8-4. Although they were outshot, the Bees scored first in the 31st minute of the match. The Bees were fouled inside the eighteen, receiving a penalty kick. Josh Simon was able to capitalize and put the Bees on the scoreboard. The game became very aggressive after the first goal, with three yellow cards issued to the Saints.
The second half looked better for the Bees, shots-wise. The Bees shot ten times to the Saints' six and had two corners to the Saints' one. Again, the game grew very chippy. By the time the Bees scored in the 88th minute, there were seven more cards given. Hunter Lillie scored the second and last goal of the match off an assist from Gus Stevens.
Jake Pollock and Stevens led the team with three shots. Joe Campbell and Hunter Lillie trailed with two. Matheus Migueis, Emilio Su Gomez, Luis Ferbeyre, and Josh Simon all tallied one shot.
Dawson Yegge had four saves on the Fighting Saints' four shots on goal.
The Bees are on the road Saturday, September 27th, for their second conference game of the season against the Viterbo V-Hawks at 1:00 p.m. in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
