Bees fall short in physical battle with Holy Cross, 2-1
The St. Ambrose men's soccer team traveled to Notre Dame, Indiana, on Saturday to face the Holy Cross Saints. Despite a strong second-half push and a goal from Luis Ferbeyre, the Bees came up just short in a 2-1 defeat.
Holy Cross struck first in the 28th minute to put the visitors up 1-0. The Bees fought hard but were outshot 11-5 in the first half. The Bees were able to limit Holy Cross to zero corner kicks in the first half.
The Bees responded early in the second half as Ferbeyre capitalized in the 49th minute, scoring the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1. Just four minutes later, Holy Cross regained the lead, giving the Saints the decisive 2-1 advantage.
The Bees tallied 10 shots with 7 on goal. The Bees were led by Ferbeyre with two shots on frame. Dylan Ollendieck, Elias Skogland, Hunter Lillie, Polvios Pelopida, Emilio Su Gomez, Owen Hull, Josh Simon, and Gus Stevens each added a shot.
Goalkeeper Dawson Yegge had a busy game, recording seven saves on the nine shots on target.
Next up, St. Ambrose will host Saint Xavier on Wednesday, October 8th, with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
