Bees cruise to three-set win at Viterbo

Behind 15 kills from Pedro Zang and 12 from Michael Bos, St. Ambrose had little trouble in winning at Viterbo Thursday night.

The Bees moved to 12-11 overall and 5-2 in the CCAC following the 25-18, 25-17, 25-23 victory.

SAU cruised through the first two sets but ran into some resistance in the third.

Viterbo (3-21, 0-6) led by as many as four points at 16-12 before St. Ambrose stormed back.

A kill from Kainalu Ka'ahanui was followed by a pair from Bos to cut the deficit to 16-15. After a V-Hawk point, kills from Zang and Bos were sandwiched around a Viterbo hitting error for an 18-17 SAU advantage.

The V-Hawks grabbed their last lead at 22-21. A kill from Zang and a Charlie Flynn ace put the Bees back in front. With the set knotted at 23-23, kills from Bos and Zander Larson wrapped up the 3-0 win.

Even in the competitive third set, SAU more than doubled Viterbo in kills (19-9). The Bees hit at a .385 clip in each of the first two sets, putting down 12 kills against two errors in the opener before collecting 15 kills and five hitting errors in the second.

St. Ambrose hit .326 for the match with 46 total kills and 15 errors. Viterbo hit .165 with 28 kills and 14 errors.

Zang and Bos received plenty of support.

Kam Dixon finished with seven kills. Anthony Anderson had five and Ka'ahanui finished with four. Flynn had two kills and Larson the match-winner.

Anderson led all players with 38 assists and matched Ethan Karban with a team-best 10 digs. Karban also handed out six assists.

SAU will return home to host Judson Tuesday.
