Bees take down Midland 62-48

A day after watching No. 20 Briar Cliff pull away in the fourth quarter, St. Ambrose used a fourth-quarter surge of its own to defeat Midland 62-48 at the Briar Cliff Classic in Sioux City, Iowa, Sunday.

The Bees entered the final period with a slim 44-41 lead, but outscored the Warriors 18-7 over the final 10 minutes to earn their first win of the season.

Abby Wolter led the way with 22 points and 14 rebounds for her second straight double-double to open the year.

Caitlyn Thole finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, five steals and a blocked shot. She buried four 3-pointers.

Hayley Flores netted nine points and Jayla Stirgus dropped in six. Payton Calouette scored three and Olivia Harter and Mary Gruber scored two points apiece.

St. Ambrose will play its home opener Saturday when the Bees welcome William Penn to Lee Lohman Arena.
