Men fourth, women eighth at Warhawk Open

The St. Ambrose men finished fourth and the Bee women took eighth at the Warhawk Open, competed at the Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.

The men qualifed fourth with 8423 total pins, finishing behind Wis.-Whitewater (8802), Mount Mercy (8584) and Calumet St. Joseph (8473) in the 25-team event. In the eight-team bracket, SAU defeated Trine 2-0 before falling to top-seed UW-Whitewater in the semifinals.

The JV1 team was the second qualifier, finishing only behind Mount Mercy. The Bees took down UW-Whitewater in the semifinals before losing in the finals to Mount Mercy. The second SAU JV team qualified fifth, just missing out on bracket play.

Varsity team members were Keaten Bieri, Tommy Burns, Tyler Close, Lucas Finley, Lucas Hersrud, Kevin Magnuson, Devin Richards and Kendric Siders.

Elias O'Hollaren was the top St. Ambrose finisher. He took sixth overall, narrowly missing all-tournament team honors, by collecting 1127 pins over his five games, good for a 225.4 average. He was joined on the JV1 team by Gavin Finley, Evan Flath, Dylan Harnden, Wyatt Honecker, Nicholas Kidd, Jaxon Robinson and Evan White. The JV2 team consisted of Drew Ballard, Logan Boll, Matthew Edler, Eli Haack, Derrick Lewandowski, Raiden Nakagawa, Jackson Satterlee and Chayce Stouffer.

The SAU women qualified eighth among the 19 varsity teams with 6857 pins to earn the final spot in the bracket. Mount Mercy (7481), Judson (7345) and Lewis (7250) were the top-three qualifiers.

The Bees were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Mount Mercy. Saint Xavier ultimately went on to win the women's bracket.

Marissa Bills grabbed another top-10 finish, taking seventh with 925 pins over her five games for a 185.0 average. Also competing were Mia Almeida, Molly Bramble, Shay Edwards, Brooklyn Schlapkohl, Kayla Staub and Emma Taft.

The St. Ambrose women's JV team finished eighth with 5682 total pins. That team was made up of Gianna Koszut, Sam Lundvall, Lily Murphy, Katie Otten, Sophie Schillie and Abby Trendle.

The Bees will head to Las Vegas, Nev., for a pair of events. The Glenn Carlson Invitational will be Dec. 18-19 and the Collegiate Shootout will follow on Dec. 20-21.
