Lytle places second at Augustana Viking Invite
Amara Lytle shot a 1-over 73 on the final day of the Augustana Viking Invite to finish as tournament runner-up. The Bee senior finished just one shot behind the medalist at the two-day event played at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill.
Her second-round 73 matched the low score of the tournament. It followed her 76 Saturday and left her with a 149. Lake Forest's Gabrielle Krebs finished with a 148.
Gabrielle Langlois narrowly missed a top-10 finish of her own. Rounds of 81 and 83 gave her a 164 and a share of 11th place.
Anna Hurning grabbed a top-15 finish. She shot a 167 with rounds of 83 and 84.
Aleanna Mendoza and Caitlin McDonagh each shot a 178. Mendoza started with an 87 and followed that with a 91, while McDonagh shot an 85 and a 93.
St. Ambrose took fourth place, finishing in the middle of the seven-team field. The Bees shot a 325-331 for a 656. Lake Forest won the tournament with a 638 (313-325).
A second SAU team shot a 723 (359-364). Ellie Rude led the Bees with rounds of 84 and 86 for a 170 and 18th place. Addy Heineke was 20th with a 174 (84-90). Tavia Dowell (93-95=188), Olivia Kappes (98-93=191) and Avery Rigg (105-104=209) also competed for St. Ambrose.
Playing as an individual, Sam Diekmann shot a 108-108=216.
Now the Bees will ready for their third straight trip to the NAIA Championships. This year's National Tournament will begin May 13 from Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
