Mendoza seventh at season-ending event
Seniors Aleanna Mendoza and Gabrielle Langlois ended their SAU careers with strong showings at the Viking Invitational, hosted by Augustana at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill.
Mendoza shot the second-best round of the day when she fired a 5-over 77 Sunday. That followed an opening-day 85 and allowed her to jump 10 spots to finish in a tie for seventh overall with a 162.
Langlois also climbed the leaderboard Sunday. She opened with a 91 before wrapping up her Bee career with an 86 for a 177, good for 25th place.
Every other Bee on the course also improved on Day 2.
Addy Heineke followed her 95 with an 86 for a 181 total to finish inside the top 30. That 181 total was matched by Lauren Callison, who shot rounds of 93 and 88.
The biggest improvement came from Anna Hurning, who recovered from a 112 Saturday to card a final-round 84 to shoot a 196.
As a team, St. Ambrose finished in a tie for fourth after sitting in sixth place Saturday. The Bees compiled scores of 364 and 333 for a 697. Augustana won the team title with a 636 (323-313).
Three Bees playing as individuals also had better second rounds.
Tavia Dowell shot a 187 (95-92), Ellie Rude fired a 188 (98-90) and Avery Rigg carded a 212 (109-103).
DuPage's Aubreye Hyatt won medalist honors with a 155 (79-76).
