Season ends in Heart Tournament semifinals

Wednesday night, the Bees traveled to Atchinson, Kan., to battle Benedictine College in the Heart Tournament semifinals. St. Ambrose, as the No. 4 seed, won the previous quarterfinal game against Culver-Stockton which punched them through to this semifinal game against the No. 1-seed Benedictine. SAU scored early to make it a two-goal game, but could not keep up and dropped the contest 30-1 to the second-ranked team in the NAIA to end the Bees' season.

In this match, both teams came out looking to advance to the Heart Tournament championship game. Benedictine opened the game with three quick goals to take the early 3-0. With a free-position shot for the Bees, Anabelle Brown capitalized and scored big to get SAU on the board down 3-1. The Ravens answered back with a seven-goal run to put them up 10-1 ending the first half. 

BC picked up where they left off and scored seven more unanswered goals. The Bees unable to find the back of the net ended the first half down 17-1. Brenna Weitekamp was in goal for the first half and totaled 12 saves. 

St. Ambrose with another slow quarter struggled on the offensive side. Benedictine capitalized on its possessions and scored eight in a row. The Bees switched goalies, and put Julieanna Hess in the cage towards the beginning of the half. 

In the final quarter, the Bees held Benedictine to five goals. However they were unable to find the back of the net and dropped the contest 30-1. Hess ended the second half making five saves. Brown had the lone goal for the night in her final game as a Bee. 

This loss ended the Bees' run in the conference tournament and concluded their season. St. Ambrose finished the season 7-7 overall and 5-3 in conference. Highlighting the season, the Bees ended fourth overall in conference and had two all-conference players: Anabelle Brown at attack and Abby Taaffe at defense. Brown finished with 47 goals and 24 assists while also winning 70 draw controls. Taaffe was the leader on defense causing 24 turnovers and handling 49 ground balls while adding three goals.
