St. Ambrose drops three-setter to IU South Bend
St. Ambrose let a great opportunity slip away in the first set and never truly recovered in a 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 home loss to Indiana South Bend Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Krouse had two kills, Grace Beitzel added one kill and Chloe Fabry recorded an ace during a five-point run that opened up a 20-16 lead in the opening set. The margin was 21-18 following a Titan hitting error moments later.
But IU South Bend (8-16, 4-6 CCAC) responded with a 6-0 run to go in front 24-21. Another Beitzel kill erased one set point before the Titans closed out the opener.
St. Ambrose (9-14, 4-7 CCAC) fell behind 7-2 in the second and never got closer than two points the rest of the way.
The third set was tied as late as 10-10 before IUSB won four of the next five points to grab a 14-11 lead. The deficit was just 18-15 following a Sofia Pabon kill, but the Titans won six of the next eight points to go in front 24-17, and they closed out the victory three points later.
Beitzel paced the Bees with eight kills. Fabry and Pabon each put down four and Krouse ended with three.
Ines Marques was credited with a team-high 15 assists. Adriana Diaz registered six digs and Larkin Calay picked up five.
SAU will visit Olivet Nazarene Tuesday.
